Privacy-preserved Network Data Publishing ( 隐私无泄漏的网路数据发布 )

    Nowadays, more and more people join multiple social networks on the Web, such as Facebook, Linkedin, and Livespace, to share their own information and at the same time to monitor or participate in different activities. Meanwhile, the information stored in the social networks are under high risk of attack by various malicious users, in other words, people's privacy could be easily breached via some domain knowledge. Thus, as a service provider, such as Facebook and Linkedin, it is essential to protect users' privacy and at the same time provide “useful” data. Simply removing all identifiable personal information (such as names and social security number) before releasing the data is insufficient. It is easy for an attacker to identify the target by performing different structural queries. In this talk, I will briefly review the current work on protecting the privacy of published social networks including clustering-based approaches and graph editing methods. Then, I will present a recent work, called k-automorphism, to protect against multiple structural attacks, following by a framework which provides privacy preserving services based on the user's personal privacy requests. In the end, I would like to highlight some future work related to this topic.

Bio:

 Lei Chen received the BS degree in computer science and engineering from Tianjin University , Tianjin , China , in 1994, the MA degree from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand, in 1997, and the PhD degree in computer science from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 2005. He is currently an associated professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include probabilistic and uncertain databases, multimedia and time series databases, privacy-preserved data publishing, and sensor and p2p network data management. So far, he published more than 100 conference and journal papers. He got the best paper awards in DASFAA 2009 and 2010. He is an associate editor for TKDE. He serves as PC Track chairs for ACM SIGMM 2011 and IEEE ICDE 2012. He has served as PC members for SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, SIGMM, and WWW and the vice-chairman of ACM Hong Kong Chapter.

Title: Processing Location Based Queries in a Streaming Fashion
    In the past few years, the wide application of online map applications and location based services has significantly changed the ways of our life. Today, it is typical for us to search for directions or businesses on the Internet and find our ways through cell phones. Lots of the location based services require providing answers to users continuously so that the users can interact with the applications in real time. For example, a tourist may ask for the nearest three restaurants to be reported continuously while traveling in a city, so that he or she may choose to go to one at any time. As the answers may change over time, the continuous nature of the applications poses new challenges on methods for processing the queries efficiently.In this talk, we look at a few key strategies to process location based queries in a streaming fashion such as incremental and shared computation, safe regions, and time-constraint processing. We illustrate these strategies through the algorithms to several important types of continuous location based queries.

Bio:
   

 Rui Zhang obtained his Bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University and PhD from National University of Singapore. Currently he is a senior lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, the University of Melbourne. His research interest is data and information management in general, particularly in areas of indexing techniques, spatio-temporal databases, web data, data streams and sequence databases. He has published extensively in such areas and regularly serves as PC members of top conferences such as SIGMOD, VLDB, ICDE, SIGKDD, etc. He is the treasurer for ACM SIGSPATIAL Australian Chapter, and he is a co-chair for Australasian Database Conference 2012 and 2013.
